to Warner Bros Chairman/CEO Barry Meyer and President/COO Alan Horn. "Their
recognition of marketing as a key element in the distribution of motion
pictures has led to their company's record results for 2005," said

box office, home video, television production and international television
distribution."
ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson was presented with the
Television Showmanship Award by DESPERATE HOUSEWIVE's Teri Hatcher. "Under

Kirk Douglas presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Variety's columnist
Army Archerd. Douglas explained Archerd's unequalled run as the premier
chronicler of Hollywood this way. "I think it's devotion to the
job," said Douglas. "He always quotes people accurately and
he never traffics in gossip or runs blind items like a lot of writers
do. He has a fabulous rolodex with numbers from virtually every person
who might be newsworthy. Everyone felt they had to read Army first thing
every day where they would always find his cheery 'Good Morning.'"
Marcia Gay Harden presented the International Media Award to Brazilian
journalist Paoula Abou-Jaoude. Other honors included the Press Award
which went to USA Today's Los Angeles-based reporter Scott Bowles; and
a Special Award of Merit to recently retired Hollywood Reporter Editor-in-Chief
and publisher Robert Downing. "He has left his imprint on the way
news about Hollywood is reported to the international community," said
Henri Bollinger, who presided over the ceremonies. "He has been
instrumental in building the Hollywood Reporter into a respected worldwide
entertainment information brand."
