Darren Rydstrom
Yes, and
Darren
Rydstrom grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota. He discovered his
passion for the film industry at an early age. Rydstrom used his
family's 8 mm home movie camera to shoot recreations of scenes from
TVs The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man with
his sisters. Rydstrom eventually went on to study film/theater
and American literature at Biola University in California. His credits
include shooting feature films, documentaries, music videos,
concerts, reality shows and also working as camera operator and assistant
on a number of commercials and feature projects. He is currently
shooting an untitled pilot for MTV about female surfers and just
wrapped two commercial spots for Burger King of Germany.
Yes, and ... is a subtle short film about a young
man and woman striking up a surreal conversation about their past
together, which may or may not be true. Director Jim Byrkit first collaborated
with Rydstrom on the pilot XIRA, which is about four crime-fighting
girls in a rock band. Yes, and
is a result of Byrkit wanting
to write a good short story and take seven of his friends on a road
trip to Flagstaff, Arizona, to shoot the film. Rydstrom and Byrkit
agreed they had to shoot Yes, and
in Academy aperture 1.85:1
aspect ratio on 35 mm film in order to handle the wide range of contrast
in day exteriors, and to capture the full beauty and subtle details
of Flagstaff environments.
