2002 Short Film Showcase Debuted
in LA on May 5

Nearly 600 filmgoers attended Local 600's international premiere of our Sixth Annual Film Showcase competition on May 5 at the DGA Theatre in Los Angeles.

Taking top honors in this year's competition are:

Patrick Capone - Born Loser
Ken Glassing - False Hood
Cynthia Pusheck - Ezekiel
Diego Quemada-Diez - A Table is a Table
Sonja Rom - Ice Cream Sundae
Dave Rutherford - Strawberry Spring
Chris Squires - Old Love
Christopher Tufty - Spirit of Yosemite
Nathaniel Wilson - Up

Many of the filmmakers were on hand to discuss their work at a reception that followed the screening. The nine films covered every conceivable genre and made for an eclectic afternoon of viewing.

Additional screenings will be announced in New York, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Miami, San Francisco and Dallas. The nine short films will also be presented at the Cannes International Film Festival. All of the screenings are sponsored by Kodak.

The competition is open to all ICG members who are not yet rated as directors of photography in the ranks of the Guild. The only other rule is that films must be 30 minutes or less. There were more than 65 entries evaluated for both artistry and execution of craft by a peer group including some of the industry's top cinematographers.

"This showcase is a preview of what tomorrow's top filmmakers have to offer," says National Guild President George Spiro Dibie, ASC. "It also demonstrates that there is a deep reservoir of talent in our industry and that bodes well for the future. These films are all engaging, entertaining and skillfully executed original works of art. In each of these nine films the cinematographer played an important role in transforming an original script into moving images that tell a story."

Stay tuned to this web site in the coming weeks as we will make post more information about the winners of this year's showcase and announce dates of its ensuing tour.
