Tom Del Ruth
Biography

Tom Del Ruth, ASC was born and raised in Los Angeles. His mother was an actress, and his father, Roy, was a director. Del Ruth came up through the ranks working on crews as an assistant cameraman and operator with such cutting edge cinematographers as Conrad Hall, ASC, Jordan Cronenweth, ASC and Bruce Surtees, ASC.

Del Ruth earned his first cinematography credit in 1979. His body of work includes such memorable features as the Breakfast Club, Stand By Me and Look Who’s Talking. The award-winning cinematographer earned Emmy Awards for his groundbreaking work on The West Wing in 2000 and 2001. He was also nominated for Emmy Awards in 2002 (The West Wing) and in 1995 (My Brother’s Keeper.) Del Ruth has earned four American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards and three other nominations in the annual competition. He won two awards in 1995 for his work on the ER pilot and claimed awards in 2001 and 2002 for The West Wing. Del Ruth was also nominated for ASC Awards in 1994 (The X-Filespilot) and in 1999 and 2003 (The West Wing.)
