The WGA to Counter with New Plan, Talks to Resume Dec. 4The WGA will respond to the producer's lastest proposals on new-media residuals with a counter plan, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It might prompt limited optimism that actual horse-trading seems finally in progress in the difficult contract talks between the guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers. But anybody still inclined to forecast chances of an imminent deal between Hollywood writers and studio reps would be well advised to cool it for a while ," wrote Carl DiOrio in The Hollywood Reporter. " The simple fact is that nobody knows where this roller-coaster ride of collective bargaining will end. " Tuesday's meeting will mark the 30th day of the strike. Studio heads impugned the experience of WGA West executive director David Young, who has not negotiated a Hollywood contract. But WGA negotiating committee chairman John Bowman dismissed the characterization, saying that the AMPTP was being forced to realize that they have to deal with the issue of new media residuals. 12/03
