Guild Anglers Hit Mother Lode on Third Annual Fishing Trip

3On Aug. 28, 37 Guild members and their families and friends set sail on the First String from the Port of San Diego for deep waters 80 miles south of the Mexican coast to fish for albacore.

The Second Annual Guild Fishing Trip featured a mix of veteran anglers and first time fishers. After a slow morning, the group hit a hot, wide-open bait bite. "Every pole was bent," reported Western Regional Director Steve Flint. "In that last bite, in about an hour, we pulled over 100 albacore. We hit the mother lode."

When the boat finally returned to San Diego at 11 pm, the group had caught 100 25-40 lb. albacore. Organizers Flint and Les Blanchard look forward to another successful haul next year.
