Putting Up a Good Fight to Organize TV Reality Show 'Law Firm'

3For nine consecutive days in September, up to 20 Local 600 picketers gathered every morning at 4:30 am at several locations around the Southland, plackards in hand, to let producers know they wanted members on the set of the reality show Law Firm working under a union contract.

But Renegade & Oseola Productions weren't budging, choosing instead to avoid picketers and bring in scabs.

"The producers played a waiting game on this show," said Business Rep Barbara Jerome, who organized the effort. "Although we've won the majority of the reality shows we've gone after - Performing As, Next Action Star, Big Brother - on this show, unfortunately, producers didn't listen and we weren't able to organize it."

The good news, said Jerome, is that we put other reality show producers on notice. "They know we're out there and gunning for them," she said.

Thank you to all the Local 600 volunteers who turned out to the job actions. And a special nod to all the 600 crew members who put their jobs on the line to try and make this industry better for everyone.
