IATSE Endorses Antonio Villaraigosa for Los Angeles Mayor

Says Councilman Will Continue to Champion Our Industry

The IATSE has thrown its unconditional support and endorsement behind Los Angeles mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa, IATSE International President Tom Short announced Mar. 25, 2005.

Appearing with Villaraigosa at a press conference in front of the Ronald Regan office building in downtown LA, President Short praised the City Councilman for his undisputed track record supporting the entertainment industry dating back to his term as Speaker of the State Assembly.

"Antonio has been a true friend to the IATSE and a champion of our industry throughout his career. When he is elected as Mayor of Los Angeles, we know he will continue to fight to keep this $31 billion industry thriving in Southern California," Short said. With over 25,000 members working in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, "the IATSE will work to turn out our members in support of the candidate who has visibly worked for this industry and that candidate is Villaraigosa."

Joining President Short at the press conference were Business Agents and representatives of IATSE West Coast Locals, including Local 600, who voted unanimously to support Villaraigosa in his bid for mayor.

What You Can Do to Help Elect Villaraigosa Mayor

With less than a month to go to Election Day, Antonio Villaraigosa needs your help! A recent Los Angeles Times poll of likely voters found Villaraigosa 18 point ahead of incumbent James Hahn - 53 to 35 percent - with 12 percent of likely voters undecided. Villaraigosa has the momentum to take him to victory on Election Day, May 17, but he needs your help.

Phoners and precinct walkers are needed between now and Election Day. Four field offices are staging volunteers - see the list below for the one closest to you.

Phoners: Mon - Thur, 5:45 - 8:45 pm

Precinct Walkers: Saturdays, 8:30 am - 1 pm
Eastside only: Sunday, 9am - 1pm
