Ojai Film Festival Honors Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC

Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ojai Film Festival, in Ojai, California. The tribute will be presented to Zsigmond at the Awards Bunch at Casa Elar, Ojai Valley Inn and Spa on Sunday, November 7.  

Zsigmond  has just wrapped production of  Bolden, an ambitious, period film set in New Orleans during the birth of jazz music during the late 1890s. The film was produced in North Carolina.   The award coincides with the 50th annual anniversary of  Zsigmond’s arrival in the United States as a political refugee from Hungary in search of a dream of  becoming a cinematographer in Hollywood.  Zsigmond will lead a  cinematography seminar from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5 at the Ojai Art Center.  

The other participants are Guild members Jim Chressanthis, ASC, Louis Schwartzberg, ASC and David Waldman, and Phil Radin from Panavision.  The seminar will be followed by a 5:30 p.m. screening of  McCabe and Mrs. Miller at the Ojai Playhouse. Julie Christie will introduce the film and participate in a discussion with Zsigmond and producer David Foster afterwards. Clips from Torn From The Flag and Vilmos and Laszlo: The Story of  Two Refugees Who Changed the Look of American Cinema will be shown at the Ojai Art Center at 12:30 p.m. on saturday, November 6. Torn From the Flag is a documentary celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution in October 5 that was brutally suprressed by the Soviet Army. Vilmos and Laszlo is a work in process by Chressanthis.
