WGA Strike: Information on Unemployment CompensationMany members have asked whether they are eligible to apply for Unemployment compensation during the WGA strike. The answer is Yes, with at least two exceptions. New York members may be ineligible to collect unemployment until 7 weeks after the strike's start. North Carolina members are prohibited from collecting unemployment if they have been laid off under strike-related circumstances. If you are laid off as a result of this dispute and are going to file for Unemployment compensation, remember to state your reason as “laid off due to lack of work,” not because of a strike; The WGA strike is not your union’s dispute. |
