Local 600 held a Mega Digital Summit in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Dec. 8-9, drawing members from across the country to receive training on the Panavision Genesis, Plus 8 Panasonic 3000, Sony F23 and the Arriflex D-20.

Hi-Def Digital Cameras are becoming evermore common on the sets. They are taking over much of the episodic programming and feature films. The Sony 900 and the Panasonic Varicam are giving way to the next generation of cameras, the Sony F-23, the Panavision Genesis, the Panasonic 3000 and the RedCamera.

Because members are dispersed in so many sates, opportunities to become familiar with them have been limited to a few people and cameras. Local 600 held a training in Albuquerque in order to give as many members as possible to learn about these cameras,

Fred Cook, a Local 600 DIT, said the training was a valuable opportunity to keep up with the latest technology.

“I need to be up on the latest gear. I can hear about things here at the workshop that I wouldn’t hear about in San Francisco for another six months,” Cook said. “There are only two F-23s in the Bay Area, but here I was actually able to get training on one.”
