NATHANIEL GOODMAN: THE FIX
Nathaniel
Goodman was born and raised in Philadelphia, where a high school teacher,
Chas Ambler, sparked his interest in cinema. He earned a degree with
honors at Brown University before moving to Los Angeles. Goodman studied
film at University of California Los Angeles for a year before jumping
to the professional world. His first camera job was as a loader for Jost
Vacano, ASC on 52 Pick-Up. He has worked on crews with James Glennon,
ASC, Jerzy Zielinski, ASC and Ueli Steiger, ASC, whom he counts as a
mentor. Goodman has been working as a camera operator on Grey's Anatomy.
The
Fix follows a disgraced former contender (Robert Patrick) who obsessively
manages his son's (Travis Aaron Wade) nascent boxing career as a way
toward self-redemption. Along the way, he makes fateful decisions that
lead to the destruction of what he realizes he wants most, which is
his son's respect. Goodman and director Adam Kane wanted the film to
play like an extended episode in a larger feature. They chose the Super
16 format for flexibility at an affordable cost. A realistic 1970s
location feeling was the goal. For lighting, they used practicals and
small accent fixtures that could run on house power. The Fix has won
numerous honors, including four best short film awards at various festivals.
