CHRISTOPHER PROBST: LAYING
DOWN ARMS
Christopher
Probst was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona.
He entered the union as a first assistant and moved up to operator on
such projects as NBC's Boomtown and the feature Sky Captain and the World
of Tomorrow. He concurrently shot music videos for Kelly Clarkson, Outkast,
Backstreet Boys, Jamiroquai, Busta Rhymes, Lisa Marie Presley, Janet
Jackson and Britney Spears, as well as commercials for Budweiser, the
Discovery Channel, Fox Sports, Sony Playstation and Ford Motor Company.
This is his third appearance in the ICG Film Showcase. He was previously
honored in 2003 for The Night Before and in 2004 for Descent.
Laying
Down Arms is the story of two women who forge an unlikely friendship
through a mistaken phone call. The film was written and directed by Carol
Schreder through the AFI Directing Women. Probst was referred to Schreder
by her friend director/producer Jon Avnet, with whom he has collaborated
for more than five years. The film is somber and dark, but several subtly
different looks were built into the narrative structure to distinguish
between flashback scenes, archival footage and present day shots. Laying
Down Arms is currently making its way around the festival circuit.
