DAVID WALDMAN: JUNE AND ORLANDO
David
Waldman is a native of Framingham, Massachusetts. He earned his master's
in cinematography from the American Film Institute in 2001. Waldman notes
that his collaborations as camera operator with cinematographer Michael
McDonough have been very fulfilling and educational in terms of learning
how to get ideas onto film. Waldman was selected for the ICG Film Showcase
last year for his cinematography of Embryo. He continues to work as a
camera operator on feature films and episodic television programs, and
as director of photography on commercials and short narrative films.
June
and Orlando follows the emotional struggle faced by a young wife when
her husband becomes paralyzed and she takes on the role of caregiver.
Waldman says he used lighting and camera movement to pull the audience
into June's world. He and writer/director Scottie Gissel wanted the wife's
memories of her healthy and vibrant relationship with her husband to
feel very different from the cool reality of her situation, without it
being visually districting. The film has won several awards and is making
a run on the festival circuit.
