NLRB Files Complaint Against Glendale Hilton

The National Labor Relations Board has accused the Glendale Hilton of threatening, interrogating and conducting surveillance of the hotel’s workers during a union organizing drive last fall.

The complaint was issued in May by a regional office of the NLRB following a five-month investigation. The complaint stems from two separate charges filed in November and January by UNITE HERE Local 11.

Kathy Shepard, a spokeswoman for the Hilton Hotels Corp., declined to address the specific charges.

A coalition of unions and advocacy groups that organized the recent marches for immigrant rights in Los Angeles has decided to cite the Glendale case as an example of how immigrant workers are treated.

The coalition includes the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez.

The NLRB scheduled a June 5 hearing before an administrative law judge. Judges usually then make a recommendation to the full boards.
