In support of these hotel workers, hundreds including clergy, students and community allies will march on Century Blvd and get arrested in one of the largest acts of non-violent civil disobedience in the history of Los Angeles. For more information on how you can take part in this historic action please call 213-488-4440 or visit www.september28th.org. To read more about the fight of the workers at the LAX corridor. The LAX corridor is Los Angeles' largest tourism sector and the home of over a dozen hotels that employ thousands of immigrant workers. Despite rising hotel room rates, hotel workers on the century corridor earn 20% less than hotel workers in Los Angeles as a whole. Many of the immigrant workers employed in the hotels along the Century Corridor also live in the surrounding communities of Lennox, Hawthorne and Inglewood, where one in four residents lives below the poverty line and 40% of children come from poor households. This means that poverty wages not only affect immigrant workers and their families, but impact the surrounding communities. 09-06 |
